About Of Stardust and Soulmates

Why is fantasy/new-age Romantasy so popular? Why has the genre exploded on BookTok? Does fantasy help us grapple with real-world problems? How do I write a fantasy novel?

Intended as a hub for readers and aspiring fantasy writers, Of Stardust and Soulmates is a student-run blog and website that explores these questions and examines the cultural relevance, psychological impact, and craft of fantasy literature by breaking down its various aspects.

This project was created to fulfill an undergraduate degree requirement for English 489: Scholarly Products at Arizona State University. The purpose of this project was to produce a broadly construed, public-facing humanities text that addresses a key social, cultural, and/or intellectual aspect of English studies research.

Meet Ally

Ally Ladner is a current undergraduate student at Arizona State University working toward her Bachelor of Arts in English. As a lifelong lover of fantasy literature, she has focused her education and career efforts on learning everything she can about the genre and looks forward to launching her fantasy-focused editorial business in 2025.

When she isn’t chasing her kids and dog around or spending quality time with her husband, you can usually find her curled up on the couch with a hot cup of tea and a magical book of some sort—usually about faeries, dragons, vampires, or witches.

Copy Editing

Copy editing is checking for consistency and accuracy. Your copyeditor will focus on grammar, punctuation, spelling, fact-checking, keeping an accurate timeline, and improving readability.

Proofreading

Proofreading is the final stage of the editorial process. A proofreader will check for errors that previous editorial passes have missed. This could include typos, grammatical errors, punctuation problems, or formatting issues.
